Dragon*Con Schedule - the Same
Yep, the schedule’s the same, but I’m reposting it so I can refer to it easier. I won’t be online much over the weekend, since I’ll be downtown. The computers are out of the house, files off-site, and nothing’s been replaced. So—there’s nothing left to steal.

New Short Story Sale
Got contract for the short story INSPIRATION for the upcoming DAW anthology THE TROUBLE WITH HEROES. This sale was a result of the Denise Little Workshop in Oregon I attended back in February/March of this year. Yay! That makes, what—2 this year? Earlier I received the contract for THE SWORD OF MERIT for the anthology SWORD PLAY.
Cool. Add that in with the sale of WITH CARRION MEN to Battlecorps back in June (there might be a part II) and hopefully if the editor likes CALIBAN, that’ll make 4 short fiction sales this year.
Booyah!
Shadowrun Story Finished

Yeah boy—it’s done and sent. In the end it was right at 8,000 words. Geeze I’m verbose. I titled it CALIBAN, and we’ll see if it passes muster. I used a well known character and tried to mimic his voice—we’ll see. Sort of an old passing on to the new kinda of thing.
Maybe.
Er…not so much.
From the Blog of Dayton Ward…
I give you Bushisms….
PHANTASM is done.
First draft is complete. And I might say is a bit shorter than SPECTRE. But I’m thinking once I do 2nd draft starting on Monday evening, that word count will change. And then once my editor gets a hold of it—all bets are off.
Now, I will watch me some anime, brush my teeth and sleep LATE in the morning. Before digging into my Shadowrun story, tentatively titled, Oyasumi.
I’m expecting to be woken up with rain in the morning… sigh… won’t that be nice? Unless my mini-me has other plans, like “Mommy! Bakugan is on!”
yippie.
Interest’n Weather here, Fay
Yep. Usually it’s hot. Mugy. Oogie. Just down right unpleasant. But since yesterday it’s been kinda dim, windy, moderate tempy, and … kinda nice.
They say no rain, but —

The last 5,000
Yes…I’m 5,000 words away from finishing the first draft. Yippie! No thanks to getting *nothing* done last night (watching Itazura na kiss). Once that’s done I plan on sleeping, seeing a movie (I still have Ocean’s 13 here to watch!) and just taking a brain break. I’m also down to just 1 Reader due to time constraints—but I know he can do it in 2 days.
But can I do revisions in that time? AND get to Dragon*Con??
My Romantic Sappy side just cost me the night…
I belong to several anime websites—duh.
And I get alerts when new episodes of my favorites are uploaded and ready to watch. I have no control when it comes to watching them either. None. Nada. Zilcho-rina. There is one, in particular, that nothing can keep me from. It’s a very popular anime, which began as a MANGA (japanese comic) several years ago and they made it into a television drama—yes and I’ve seen it—back in 1996.
Recently the anime began airing and as soon as a new episode is there—I’m toast. What anime/Manga/series is this? Ah, now that’s the surprise. Because there’s no supernatural elements, no unconventional conventional, or even the slightest hint of Scifi. Nope.
The title is Itazura na Kiss, and it is in its simplistic form, a Romance. Senior year of High School, not so
intelligent girl, Kotoko, is love with Straight A student, Naoki, and professes undying love. Irie Noaki refuses her, Akita Kotoko is devastated. Not a day later her house is destroyed, and she and her father move in with her father’s best friend—Irie-Chan—Naoki’s father.
Much drama, love, laughter, heart-break and romantic entanglements ensue. I can not WAIT till the next episode.
For the television drama the actor Kashiwabara Takashi was cast as Irie Naoki—and man what a great casting that was. Wow. Niiiiice. You can watch it HERE.
So in case you’re ever interested in dipping into the incredible world of anime, I would suggest taking a look at Itazura Na Kiss. It is so worth it just for the story alone. — btw, I watch most all anime subbed, so if you’re looking for an English dub, not there yet. My suggestion is Bleach Exile you can download it there and enjoy!
Dragon*Con
Gots a phone call today—seems one of my editors/friends/fellow writers and owner of Catalyst Game Labs is coming to Dragon*Con. They’ve got a booth. Dat would be Loren L. Coleman and Randall N. Bills. Yes, Loren’s picture is particularly true to life in that link (my fav is Dave’s pic, since it’s only the top of his head!)
I write for these guys (BattleTech) and will be doing Shadowrun for them as well. I can’t wait to see them—especially since I missed GenCon.
